Rain? In Southern California??
The rain at "Goodie! Goodie!" had me in a state of
limbo. It was too slippery to dance inside, and outside it was
raining too hard to act like it didn't matter. It was frustrating
not being able to dance at a party. That there was music outside,
despite the rain, was impressive. In the first hours, the wet
kept Goodie from being as fun as it could be. The vibe was good,
but soggy.
By midnight the rain had stopped, and the soaking wet asphalt
gave plenty of grip for dancing to House music. Yes, House music.
As a refreshing change of pace, ROAM decided that we should have
something besides Jungle all night outside at the Masterdome,
which separated this event from every other Dome party ever,
and gave it character. At this point, the smooth concrete inside
was too slippery to dance on, so outside was the place to be.
As the clouds cleared to unveil the stars, we felt the power
of House, and that everything was going to turn out fine. |

However, Jungle was noticeably absent. On
a hunt for the most obvious Junglists, I asked them how they
felt about the lack of Jungle. A short Asian girl in military
garb said, "I wish I could shoot everyone" as her hands
took the shape of a small pistol, aiming at innocent Kandy Kids.
"That's great," I told her. The next Junglist I asked
said, "Alder is coming on in ten minutes." Even better,
I thought. (Alder is a Jungle DJ)
At around 2am, Alder and DJ W brought what
we had been craving all night. Without checking what party is
scheduled you can expect to hear Jungle all night every Friday
at the Dome. You take it for granted. After not hearing it all
night, my eyes rolled back into my head when the first Jungle
bass lines were dropped. Special props to DJ W, who mixed "2
Bad Mice" into his Jungle set, very creative.

Meanwhile inside, body heat had
sped evaporation, and the floors were dry - traction had returned.
The night's better indoor sets from Paul E, Reza, Jason Splat
and a 2x4 with Thee-o and DJ Flight were to come. Fog and purple
spotlights created an organic fluid atmosphere near the stage.
The energy on the dance floor was incredible, and everyone there
did not want to be anywhere else in the world at that time. |

Goodie! Goodie! ended with Thee-o scratching
away on his white record until five o' clock, the way every Masterdome
party should end. (After which, one raver came on stage and explained
to Thee-o in 3000 words how much he loved the set).
Goodie! Goodie! was another great party at
the Masterdome that got better, (and drier) the longer it went.
So who could care about a little rain? It is not like we had
an earthquake.
